Arts for Autism: Top 5 Reasons to Use Spectrum Dance and Music Therapy

PRESS RELEASE - MAR 14, 2016 11:00 EDT

Spectrum Dance and Music Therapy was founded by Audrey Amadeo, MS, BCBA. in 2013.

It has proven to be a fun and interactive way for
children all across the autism spectrum to work on
behavior challenges, sensory disorders, language
development, social skills, coordination, and memory.
This program is unique to the South Florida community,
being the only one of it's kind. The children love it and show improvements in so many different areas. This is a weekend program that incorporates therapeutic strategies from Applied Behavior Analysis, Autism Movement Therapy, and Music Therapy. The
combination of these three strategies is what makes up Spectrum Dance and Music Therapy and what makes it so unique.

There are numerous benefits to the Spectrum Dance and Music Therapy program offered by the Arts For Autism Foundation.

1. It provides a service to the South Florida region that is rare.

2. It provides a combination of artistic therapies that when provided in any combination can be very beneficial to the students their families, and the community.

3. The program staff consists of certified therapist that provide the best practices and services to better the students’ autistic symptoms.

4. The information given to the students and their families help them come together on Saturdays and share fun activities in the arts together.

5. It gives children with autism a means of communication, expression, creativity, and confidence by improving their speech, coordination, memory, behavior, and social skills.

The services provided by the Arts For Autism Foundation, the staff and volunteers, the family and community involvement, and the students’ documented improvement are what make Spectrum Dance and Music Therapy a success for the students and the South Florida community. This is a program that not only helps those affected by autism, but also spreads autism awareness.

About Audrey Lynn-Founder

Audrey Lynn Amadeo was born and raised in Miami, Florida.  She grew up as a gymnast, cheerleader, and dancer. Audrey was an Honors Student throughout her school years. She has always had a passion for giving back to her community. She started her experience with children with disabilities at the age of 13. Audrey learned American Sign Language and would teach her Deaf peers the art of dance. She was 1 of 75 students accepted to the Miami-Dade Honors College.  As an Honors College student Audrey took an intense course load of classes in Psychology while volunteering her services as a Reading tutor to children with Autism. She also volunteered her time at Rockway Middle School working with children who were hearing impaired and mentored underprivileged boys at the middle school level.

After graduating with Honors with an AA in Psychology she moved on to Florida Atlantic University on a full scholarship.  At FAU Audrey obtained a Bachelors degree in Psychology and a Certification in Exceptional Students Education.  She volunteered her time at Dania Beach Elementary in a cluster classroom for children on the Spectrum.  After graduating from FAU she began working as an Autism Therapist for Behavior Analysis Inc.  She has now obtained her Masters in Developmental Disabilities with a Specialization in Applied Behavior Analysis.
While she was working, studying, and volunteering her services to the community of children with special needs she has been managing and teaching at Aventura Dance Studio. After a year of working two separate jobs in the two fields she is passionate about, she decided to fly to California and get certified by Joanne Lara as an Autism Movement Therapist.  This certification combines the two realms of work that Audrey is best at, ABA Therapist and Dance Instructor.  Her experience over the past 10-years of working with children with developmental disabilities and her dream of having a dance studio for children with special needs has become a reality. The Arts for Autism Foundation was founded by Audrey Lynn because of her education, passion and talent for dance and working with children with Autism. She utilizes her certification as a Board Certified Behavior Analyst and in Autism Movement Therapy to implement a structured Spectrum Dance Therapy class for children with Autism.
